Hourly to Salary Calculator Canada

Convert an hourly wage to an annual salary, or an annual salary to an hourly wage. Compare annual, monthly, semi-monthly, biweekly, weekly and daily gross income equivalents.

Hourly to Salary

$/hr

Using 52 weeks assumes you earn this wage for the entered weekly hours throughout all 52 weeks. If you work fewer paid weeks (unpaid time off, seasonal work), adjust the weeks field.

How to convert hourly wage to annual salary

To convert an hourly wage to an annual salary, multiply your hourly wage by the hours you work per week, then multiply by the number of paid weeks per year. The standard assumption is 40 hours per week and 52 paid weeks, giving 2,080 annual hours, but you can adjust both values to match your situation.

Annual Gross Income = Hourly Wage × Hours/Week × Weeks/Year

How to convert annual salary to hourly pay

To convert an annual salary to an equivalent hourly wage, divide the salary by your total annual hours (hours per week × weeks per year). This produces an equivalent rate based on the hours and weeks you enter; it does not necessarily represent your legal hourly wage or overtime rate.

Equivalent Hourly Wage = Annual Salary ÷ (Hours/Week × Weeks/Year)

How many work hours are in a year?

A common standard is 2,080 hours per year: 40 hours per week × 52 weeks. If you work 37.5 hours per week, the total is 1,950 hours per year. Your actual annual hours depend on your schedule and any unpaid time off.

What if I don't work 52 weeks per year?

Using 52 weeks assumes you earn the entered wage for the entered weekly hours throughout the entire year. If you have unpaid time off, a seasonal schedule, or school-year employment, lower the weeks-per-year field so your annual estimate reflects actual paid weeks. For salary-to-hourly conversions, the result is an equivalent rate based on the hours and weeks you enter.

Biweekly vs. semi-monthly pay

Biweekly and semi-monthly pay are not the same. Biweekly pay means 26 paycheques per year (one every two weeks). Semi-monthly pay means 24 paycheques per year (twice per month). Because 26 and 24 differ, the per-paycheque amounts differ even for the same annual salary. This calculator treats them as distinct frequencies.

Gross income vs. take-home pay

Gross income is what you earn before deductions. Take-home pay (net pay) is what remains after income tax, CPP, CPP2, EI and other deductions. This calculator shows gross income only. To estimate take-home pay, use our Payroll Calculator.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert hourly pay to annual salary?
Multiply your hourly wage by the hours you work per week, then multiply by the number of paid weeks per year. For example, $25/hour × 40 hours/week × 52 weeks = $52,000/year. Adjust the weeks if you do not work all 52 weeks.
How do I convert annual salary to hourly pay?
Divide your annual salary by your total annual hours (hours per week × weeks per year). For example, $52,000 ÷ (40 × 52) = $25/hour. This is an equivalent hourly rate, not necessarily your legal overtime rate.
How much is $25 an hour per year?
At 40 hours per week and 52 paid weeks per year, $25/hour equals $52,000 per year in gross income. Working fewer weeks reduces the annual total.
How many working hours are in a year?
A common standard is 2,080 hours per year, calculated as 40 hours per week × 52 weeks. If you work 37.5 hours per week, the total is 1,950 hours per year.
Is biweekly pay the same as semi-monthly pay?
No. Biweekly pay means 26 paycheques per year (every two weeks). Semi-monthly pay means 24 paycheques per year (twice a month, often on the 15th and last day). They produce different per-paycheque amounts.
Does this calculator include income tax?
No. This calculator shows gross income before taxes. To estimate after-tax take-home pay, use our Payroll Calculator, which estimates federal and provincial income tax, CPP, CPP2 and EI.
Does this calculator include CPP and EI?
No. CPP and EI are payroll deductions, not part of this gross-income conversion. Use the Payroll Calculator to estimate CPP, CPP2 and EI deductions.
Does this calculator include overtime?
No. This calculator uses your base hourly wage and regular hours only. For overtime estimates, use our Overtime Pay Calculator.
Does this calculator include vacation pay?
No. Vacation pay is a separate entitlement. Use our Vacation Pay Calculator to estimate vacation pay based on your wages, employment length and jurisdiction.
What if I work fewer than 52 weeks per year?
Lower the 'weeks worked per year' field. This accounts for unpaid time off, seasonal work, or school-year schedules so your annual estimate reflects actual paid weeks.
Why might my actual pay be different?
Actual paycheques can differ because of overtime, vacation pay, statutory holiday pay, bonuses, commissions, unpaid leave, taxes, payroll deductions, employment agreements and applicable employment standards.
Is this calculator for all Canadian provinces and territories?
The hourly-to-salary math itself is the same across Canada. However, taxes, employment standards, overtime rules, minimum wage, vacation pay and statutory holiday rules vary by province or territory. This calculator does not add province-specific legal rules.
